According to Gallup, only 32% of the workforce is engaged in their work. Disengaged employees have more absences, are less productive, and can negatively impact workplace morale. On the other hand, when employees have a strong sense of belonging and engagement, they perceive more options to solve problems, are more insightful, collaborate better, and have higher overall performance. When we say, “Maslow Before Bloom” it is true for both students and adults.
Strong social connections strengthen our immune system, lower anxiety and depression, and even help us live longer. Additionally, people who feel connected are more empathetic, trusting, and cooperative. Isn’t this the climate and culture we are trying to cultivate in our schools and workplaces?
